Blessings Times Two

Welcome to our little piece of the world. We are blessed with health, happiness, & families. We have been blessed twice by different birthfamilies. Each birthfamily was at a time in their life when they needed us & we needed them. We each have been able to bless the other. So this blog is primarily for our children's birthparents who blessed us with the most precious gift of being parents. Thank you for allowing us to be blessed with the precious gift of children.

.MOM conference (part 2)

I'm finally going to finish up my thoughts from the .MOM conference.
It's funny how a month since the conference is creeping up on me...I've definitely gotta take those deep breaths, slow down & take more me time to recharge, ugh!
I just remembered how cold the conference center was...in the middle of September in Alabama!  It was crazy cold in there!  I was super glad to have a sweater.

Session 3 on Saturday morning was Vicki Courtney.  Vicki talked on the scripture of Luke 10:38...of how Martha & Mary were at the feet of Jesus.  Now how does this relate to me as a momma...

Like Martha, mom's are usually doing things...we can't sit & just be to reflect in the moment.  As a mom, I know that I get distracted by too many things...too many things drag me around & disrupt a balance .
So...

  • I have  to make time to sit & listen...there are simply too many things that distract...technology, electronics, TV, etc
  • Sitting & listening must come before serving....so like Mary---I need to be reminded of this many times, because serving comes too natural to me.
  • As a mother, we--I speak in general of most all mom's--need to learn to work for giving enough rather than chasing after too much.  Remember there are too many choices in life today & down time for everyone in most cases is ok.
  • Once I recognize that need of making Jesus my primary affection...I will be freed of so many things.
  • Finding a balance to the Mary in a Martha world is a continuous battle

Session #4 was Priscilla Shirer...OH MY GOSH...where have I been, a turtle under the covers??! Priscilla really held my attention; she is a great speaker/ story teller.
She spoke on Luke 5, about the netwashers.

  • We are all netwashers in some way & fashion.  As mom's we continue to try to wash away 'stuff', instead we need to do the best we can with what we are given.
  • I need to remember to not give into 'guilt trips' & take time to catch my breath.
  • Jesus will help bring the nets in when I feel like I can now longer do the job(s).
Check out what Priscilla wrote about after the conference (what-I-wish-I-would've-said) that was a pretty prowerful blog.  I had several ah-ha moments reading that blog.
This is the one thing that has stood out the most to me from Priscilla's blog...but you really should read the entire post..."encouraged the women to find some fellow "net washers" in their lives - women who will come along side of them and help them to remain encouraged and uplifted in their rolls as mothers. Partners who will help them to wash off the regret and discouragement from yesterday's discouragements in preparations for tomorrow's victories. What I neglected to say was that it's ashamed how often we, as moms, stand back watching another mother repair and wash her net and instead of helping her, we criticize her."

So, to me this means I need to accept how other moms do things in their lives & respect those decisions.
I am so glad that I took the time to go to this conference.  Will I go next year?? IDK...we'll have to wait & see.
