Blessings Times Two

Welcome to our little piece of the world. We are blessed with health, happiness, & families. We have been blessed twice by different birthfamilies. Each birthfamily was at a time in their life when they needed us & we needed them. We each have been able to bless the other. So this blog is primarily for our children's birthparents who blessed us with the most precious gift of being parents. Thank you for allowing us to be blessed with the precious gift of children.

Trying to catch up

Wow, I am so far behind in posting here...it has been a rough start to a new year to say the least.

Hayden had a cold for the biggest part of January. Some where in the middle of the month the cold kicked over into more & he had high temps in the neighborhood of 106! Yes you read that right 106. We were at the doctor office every day one week, had multiple chest x-ray, lab work, the proud owners of a neb machine & were threatened w/ a hospital stay one weekend, but I begged the peds to let us treat Hayden at home over the weekend. I promised to watch him & call asap if changes were noted. I was on call...it was going to be so hard to make changes in my call coverage unless Hayden was so sick just had to be hospitalized. I had a first appt. the following Monday for Hayden to be reevaluated. He turned worst in 12 hours--from the time we put him to bed Sunday night till I got him up Monday morning. It was a virus that kicked over to pneumonia .

It was off to the hospital we went that day....He was so pitiful!!! Hayden had no energy nor desire nor fight for the first 8 hours then boom...the meds had all kicked in & he was doing better . Me on the other hand---I was a mess, I got the worst cough!!! It lasted 10'ish days...I was miserable....all from a virus. But Hayden is just now doing better. He is still having trouble staying awake at school & usually falls asleep at some point; his teachers work w/ him on the nap issue. Next week we have Hayden's IEP review....it's a double edge sword, I know his teachers will do/be fine w/ things, it is the county rep that can be nasty about things.

We sought a 2nd opinion on Hayden's autism stuff...it was agreed same diagnosis. The clinic gave us some great suggestions! Our visit was at the beginning of Hayden's illness so it wasn't his best performance, but they got the idea. We have Hayden's ped on board w/ the clinic's suggestions & have begun implementing them---they were able to get the same developmental ped at our closest children's hospital, Kluge--which is huge (Kluge wants to switch you around all the time to different providers--augh).

Hayden will begin addition speech this week--YEAH!! He will using the same speech therapist as before. We are excited about this & hopeful that Hayden's speech will EXPLODE.

Hayden will visit his neurologist in the next few weeks. We are going to ask him to begin tapering Hayden off of some of the seizure meds. After tolerating several days of HIGH temps & no seizures, Tim & I feel like we can handle the taper. Sleep is another issue....I don't think that boy will ever sleep consistently.....I've read that lots of kids on the autism spectrum have sleep issues. So Tim & I have just resolved that just may be part of Hayden's problems. We take turns getting up w/ him.

Tim has officially taken signed the package deal at his job & whenever the company gets it's act together he will be let go. It's good thing but a scary thing too. Tim has had 2 interviews at another local plant, he is waiting to hear if they will call him back for the 3rd interview.
We figure that we have 7 months before he has to have a job. Today Tim is picking up his resume. We have pondered moving, but financially we can't nor for support of Hayden we can't--augh, it is scary but it feels right & we are trusting God that something 'more right' will come along. There is always a silver-lining....I carry our insurance, my job is stable & we had thought this might be a possibility about 6 months ago & started thinking of ways to cut cost.

I am working on staying healthy---not easy! Exercise has become a a very high priority. Some days I go at 5 am & others after work. Tim sees how important this is to me. We are working on eating better & getting more sleep.
Shayla is sick now--strep throat. She is horrible, horrible w/ taking meds! It was 2 hours at attempting to get 2 chewable antibiotics down last night. It didn't go...I have a call into the peds office for the next step/option.

I'm need to get busy w/ other things today.
Lots of love to my special friends.
xoxo,
Amy
